Abstraction
Mon is an artist currently based in the Northern Rivers, originally from Newcastle. Their artistic style blends pop surrealism and lowbrow influences, often shifting and evolving. Mon is usually found drawing or painting, spending time imagining, contemplating, and observing nature until bursts of creative energy arrive. Characters emerge subconsciously, flowing from hand to medium.
Their works are playful and childlike in spirit, bursting with bright colours and repetitive patterns that are both fun and cheeky. Living with bipolar II, Mon finds the depressive episodes particularly challenging, yet art remains a vital outlet. This year marks their third with Recovered Futures - an opportunity they value for raising awareness and helping build stronger, more connected communities.
'Abstraction' is a canvas work built around a few key words: Reaction, Distraction, Satisfaction. My hope is for viewers to engage with the piece freely, seeing and feeling whatever it evokes for them.
