By Andrew Walters

Andrew is an autodidactic artist from Redcliffe who creates work with bold colour choices and a hidden complexity of simplicity. With a keen eye for design and composition, Andrew’s work is deceptively illustrative. He aims to evoke a conversation with the viewer, inviting them to offer their interpretation and share their story. He finds creating artwork gives him a voice when the right words escape him.

Andrew has experienced difficult times with depression, insomnia, and anxiety, but through treatment, therapy, and the unconditional love and support from his family, he finds each day is a little brighter.

I created this painting as I explored the concept of a portrait. A portrait is successful if you capture the likeness of the person, but can you capture the essence of a person in a portrait without a head? I wished to encourage the interpretation and story of the person, of the life lived, the present, and the life ahead.
