Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"So, you’re going through some mental health stuff? Better put on some sad music, stay inside, and wear black, right? That’s the stereotype after all.
Anxiety doesn’t always look grey and gloomy. Depression doesn’t need to drape itself in dowdiness.
This piece is a statement and exploration about my response to anxiety. Two things can be true at the same time; I can feel one thing on the inside and look like an explosion of colour on the outside - and that’s what translates onto the canvas."
Emma Darrouzet is an artist from Brisbane who has lived experience with a severe and ongoing anxiety disorder. Her work is an exploration of the mind when people offer their unsolicited and ill-informed advice.
The titles of the pieces are meant to satirise, but also evoke thought and introspection. The work aims to provide a voice for those who too often are ignored, dismissed and disbelieved.
