"When a loved one is pronounced seriously ill, we rally around. We visit, we write, we call. We send flowers. However, there’s often a loud silence when that illness is psychological.

I created this piece to remind us that no matter the injury, our presence and support is fundamental. The 'precious scars' in the vase reference the concept of Kintsugi. Like Japanese porcelain, we too are more precious for the healing scars that reveal our journeys."

Creating is the means by which Kath McCann expresses, channels and transforms emotion. It is a place for calm, for quietening and for peace; a place that Kath aspires to share through her artwork.

Like many, Kath longed to create as a child. Like many, challenges arose - the first panic attack at 12; the first major depressive episode at 19. It wasn’t until midlife that she stepped into the courage to nurture this dream.

Using the pseudonym Kath.Artique (cathartic), Kath explores how we resolve our inner experience of existence, alongside our external presence in the world, aiming to characterise the nurturing of mind, body and soul.

Kath works intuitively in acrylic, watercolour and pencil.
