Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"This is my first self-portrait. I had an idea that I hadn't seen done before, which was using mixed media, incorporating cross stitch and acrylic. This self-portrait was confronting as I look in the mirror and see that I am ageing and changing. Now upon completion, I am proud that this is me and I can express myself through my art."
Maree Nicholls likes to keep her hands working and moving. She enjoys all types of art including cross stitch, diamond art and most recently has been exploring different sketching and painting styles.
Maree likes creating in a quiet place, where she can zone out and feel calm. Her art helps her manage her severe anxiety and depression. Maree loves being able to switch off from the world and let her pencil or paintbrush take over.
Maree looks forward to her art classes, as she loves learning new creative skills. She surprises herself with what she can achieve and this makes her happy.
