Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"The sea has been a constant in my life. It is where I began, and where I go to re-centre and find myself again. It asks nothing of me.
The intention of this artwork is for the viewer to be able to sit and look. And look. And look. Like being near the sea. Look deeply into the painting, the sea and yourself.
Through art, I am calmly walking forward towards better health."
Ness Buiskool enjoys distilling complex three-dimensional realities, themes and experiences into simple two-dimensional artworks. Utilising a limited palette and synthetic polymer paint, she creates images that allow the viewer's mind to fill in the complexity, or rest in the simplicity offered. Repetition is a key component of Ness' artworks, which provide both a salve and a visual expression of a diagnosed mental health disorder.
'Low Tide' is part of Ness' Salt Water Series 2023. This series has been produced outdoors in parks across Brisbane, by the river and the bay, and is an illustration of the tenacity of Brisbane artists to continue to produce art in public spaces through necessity during the rental crisis.
