"The koi fish are symbols of beauty, love, strength and perseverance - qualities relevant to those with a lived experience of mental illness.
My thought was to capture the impression of looking into a pond and viewing the movement of glistening koi through the water.
Feeling uninhibited by convention, I employed the use of collage, acrylic paints, stenciling, inks and pen."
Art is a medium that supports JoAnn Cutler to gain self-understanding and communicate with others. It is a means of discovering and expressing her true self, while sharing her inspiration and joy with others.
Through her art, JoAnn explores the inner darkness of anxiety and depression, which may otherwise frighten her. Her aim is to evoke a sense of inspiration and discovery within the viewer.
Creating intuitively with multimedia and watercolour, JoAnn loves seeing where paint, mark-making and collage will take her. Many of her works feature bold colours and graphite portraiture, as well as acrylic and oil abstracts or florals.
