Lainie is an 81-year-old artist who has been painting since childhood. Her work is abstract, using bright and bold colours to evoke joy and uplift.
Growing up in Yorkshire, England, Lainie's sister Josie and Lainie often painted together until she emigrated to Australia in 1971. In Australia, she deepened her interest in art, studying Fine Arts and Ceramics in Wollongong, New South Wales. Now living in Brisbane/Meanjin, she continues to experiment with new techniques and materials.
Throughout her adult life, she has struggled with depression, and painting has been a vital part of her therapy. Lainie's oldest son also struggled with mental health issues resulting in his premature passing.
The bold, bright greens represent growth and renewal. Amidst the chaos, the colours blend harmoniously, reflecting my path to balance and tranquillity. This painting is about finding strength within and celebrating the beauty that comes from overcoming inner struggles.
