Artworks are first available for purchase by sponsors and dignitaries before being available in person at the Exhibition in Brisbane. Unsold artworks can also be purchased online following the event.
"There are many times my illness has taken me to dark places and I wanted to show there is still hope in getting through it. The flower symbolises hope as it blooms and the colours are almost irridescent against the darker background. It catches your gaze in its stillness and invites you to stop and absorb its beauty."
Dee Dee has been coping with severe mental illness her whole adult life. Finding the right psychiatrist and support has made all the difference.
About two years ago, she commenced her journey with art and it has been life-changing - giving her a sense of belonging, a way to deal with her emotions and an opportunity to know herself in a different way.
Learning new techniques and playing with colour and texture has been fun. Painting is Dee Dee's therapy and she is grateful to showcase her artwork alongside the other talented artists.
