"The Golden Bromeliads grow unassumingly near my house on a busy road. I have often driven and walked past without seeing them. Then one day ‘boom!’ - I saw them literally as if for the first time. The afternoon light was beaming through them. They were one of the most magnificent plants I’d ever seen, glowing bright red and orange. I knew in that moment I had to race home and paint them."
Sue Yule is a Brisbane-based oil painter, exploring the themes of nature and botanicals.
Sue's love of painting is driven by her fascination of how light moves across the subjects she paints. She is inspired by the nuances of different colours and the way the light dances and interacts with plants and flowers. Sue's aim is to capture the transience of light and infuse it into her paintings.
Sue's creative process starts with going on walks around her neighbourhood and throughout Brisbane's Botanic Gardens, collecting photos of plants and flowers in bloom which capture her eye.
