Mai Naito is a photographer born in Osaka, Japan, where she grew up immersed in nature and developed an imaginative way of seeing the world. In 2015, she moved to Brisbane to study photography and pursue her passion for capturing natural moments.
Influenced by her childhood experiences, Mai’s practice explores the emotional impact of nature, seeking to evoke serenity and foster a deep connection between viewers, the environment, and the present moment. Her impressionist style - characterised by soft tones and dreamy aesthetics - offers a sense of calm and reflection.
Mai has exhibited in hospitals across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, providing patients with moments of emotional escape through nature’s beauty and tranquillity.
Inspired by my childhood encounters in natural spaces, I explore the memories and emotions of the natural world through photography. To create my pieces, I photograph intriguing moments while walking through nature, then layer and blend them into a single image. This process captures time in a single frame, transforming memories into tangible forms. My work inspires viewers to find a deeper connection with nature, offering an emotional escape through visual pleasure, while encouraging healing and serenity.
