Lux in Tenebris
Cindy is a passionate artist from Toowoomba, specialising in oil painting and charcoal drawing. Her primary focus is portraiture, seeking to capture and reveal the true essence of the soul - the beauty, truth, and divine spark inherent in every individual.
From a young age, Cindy was enamoured with drawing and painting, often depicting her favourite birds, lions, pets, and people. These subjects continue to inspire her work.
While Cindy's art was put to the side during a period of personal challenges, including two marriage breakups, depression, and anxiety, Cindy's faith and art played a crucial role in her recovery and renewal. Cindy is reminded that if the ending isn't good, the story isn't over. It's all good in the end.

‘Lux in Tenebris’ is Latin for 'light overcomes darkness'. This was an experimental piece created using charcoal and isopropyl alcohol on smooth Bristol paper. In allowing myself to be 'out of control', I found that the artwork became what it wanted to be. I’ve always been drawn to portraiture, and in this piece, a beautiful face 'just appeared' from the random blackness of the charcoal. For me, it symbolises how, when we let go of fear (darkness), we create space for freedom (light) to emerge and triumph.
