By Maxine T McCoy

Maxine holds a Bachelor of Psychology and is an aspiring art therapist. Her creative practice is informed by her work with diverse communities navigating mental health challenges. She recently led a sensory art program at a disability centre, which strengthened her belief in the therapeutic power of creative expression.

For Maxine, art serves both as self-expression and reflection - an outlet for processing experiences and emotions. Her work explores themes of mental wellbeing, self-identity, and connection, offering a window into the complexity of the human condition.

Passionate about the intersection of creativity and wellbeing, Maxine sees art as a pathway to healing and insight. She hopes her practice creates space for resonance, connection, and the sharing of emotional truths.

This work reflects the process of reconnecting with the inner child - not for nostalgia, but as an act of healing. It speaks to the journey of reclaiming authenticity - the unapologetic vibrancy, freedom, and emotional clarity of childhood, which is often subdued by societal expectations. Through this piece, the inner child is honoured, integrated, and given space to exist loudly within the adult self. It is a mindful return to joy, a commitment to wholeness, and an awareness of what must be preserved.
