Tragedy Anne Arts is a Brisbane-based artist who works across a wide variety of mediums and styles, including jewellery, engravings, digital designs, painting and more. Her inspiration often comes from her own lived experience with mental health and addiction, as well as nature - or simply whatever fun ideas spark her imagination.
She also takes on commission work including tattoo designs, and has showcased her creations at several market stalls in the past few years, with plans to expand further. This exhibition marks her first time presenting work in a gallery setting.
This piece, inspired by MOTHICA’s 'Exit Plan' and my own mental health journey, reflects the struggle of recovery. The mountains symbolise the emotional highs and lows, while the dots mark each positive step forward. The skeleton represents addiction’s pull, always trying to drag you back. The tree and butterflies capture the difficult stage where you’re no longer suicidal, but unsure how to truly live. It speaks to the ongoing cycle of healing, hope, and the search for genuine happiness.
