By Abbie White

Abbie's paintings are highly intuitive and always come from the heart. Painting mostly with her hands and non-traditional tools like brooms and brushes taped to long sticks, Abbie uses raw canvases with acrylic paint to create dreamlike immersive scenes. She often builds the painting on loose canvas and stretches it herself closer to completion, allowing her to create fresh and unexpected compositions.

Abbie's role as a mother to a child with OCD and complex anxiety has been a journey fraught with emotions, which she channels into her art. Her paintings are also driven by her own mental health challenges following the loss of her parents. Abbie's paintings have become a form of meditation, creating calm in an otherwise chaotic world.

Do we ever truly remember things as they are? The Tasmanian landscapes of my childhood feel drained of colour, replaced by moody skies and vast, open lands that may or may not have ever existed that way.
