The Majestic Brolga

Kris Stokman is a local emerging artist whose interest lies in exploring realism and fantasy, including other worlds and mythical creatures. Working primarily in water mixable oils on canvas, Kris is also developing skills in digital media by creating his own Dungeons and Dragons characters. 
 
Interested in exploring all aspects of photography, Kris is passionate about capturing wildlife in their natural habitat. He uses these photographs as inspiration for future paintings in both real and imagined landscapes. 
 
Being behind the camera allows Kris to explore the world around him without the fear and anxiety which is ever-present whenever he leaves home.

I created this vibrant painting inspired by a photograph I took of a brolga - Queensland’s official bird emblem - at Australia Zoo. The artwork captures the elegance and beauty of this majestic creature. Sadly, brolga numbers are dwindling in parts of Australia due to the loss of their natural habitat. Through this piece, I hope to celebrate their grace while also raising awareness of the need to protect and preserve their environment.
