Trudy Tathem is a Brisbane artist who is inspired by art deco, the beauty of art nouveau, and the enduring power of feminine icons, fashion, fantasy, and other whimsical influences. Flora and fauna play into her creations, and having fun with images in surprising and subtle ways is part of her style. Objects of jewellery, pop culture, or everyday life often make an appearance in Trudy’s art.

Trudy’s work often centres on women - muses, goddesses, and mythical figures - reimagining them in her own style. She loves intricate linework, lush patterns, and sometimes collage and texture. To bring an interesting, colourful, and uplifting piece to the viewer has always been Trudy's goal, and her style and subjects are always changing.

My love of the sea and mythology inspired me to create this piece. I have always found the ocean to be a calming influence, but something mysterious about it always suggests the existence of of strange creatures, like the mermaid.
