After a significant mental health challenge in 2018 led to an extended hospital stay, Katherina was 'prescribed' art therapy to assist in her recovery. She had never participated or tried art before, so she was very nervous.

Now six years later, Katherina knows art saved her life. It is the only thing that brings peace to Katherina's mind, and feels a deep connection to the pieces she paints.

Katherina attributes some of her success to the assistance of her amazing art teacher, who assists her to bring her emotions and feelings to life on the canvas. Of all the therapies Katherina has participated in for her depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, she finds art to be the best.

I’ve always loved the ocean and the Australian coastline. There’s a special joy I find in seeing the pandanus trees and sheoaks that line our beautiful beaches. This artwork reflects that connection to nature and the sense of calm and belonging it brings. Through colour and form, I aim to capture not just the landscape, but the feeling of being there.
