Neither One Of Them Is Getting Out Of This Alive
Katana is an artist and animator originally from the UK. Drawing inspiration from tattooing, animation, and fine art, she weaves these influences into her unique creative style. Working primarily with acrylic and watercolour, Katana's practice often explores themes of wild nature, inner struggles, and the complexity of relationships.
Having lived with anxiety and depression from an early age, Katana has long found comfort in art, particularly following the sudden and unexpected loss of her brother. For her, creating is both a moment of reflection and focus, as well as a safe space to explore emotions too difficult to put into words.
I wanted to paint this piece to depict a toxic relationship, and I’ve enjoyed hearing people’s different interpretations. Is he carrying the demon on his back while she’s too blind to see it? Has she captivated him, leaving him powerless to resist her insidious embrace? Is this demon something they’ve been carrying for a long time, or was it born from their romantic entanglement? Either way, it’s clear that the outcome won’t be pretty.
