Bromeliad

Colleen Stevenson is a Brisbane-based artist whose practice emerged after the loss of her son, David. Colleen's art helps shift her focus and brings her into the moment. Attracted to hidden beauty and overlooked stories in ordinary and unlikely places, Colleen often includes reflections and natural elements in her work. She invites viewers to notice beauty in everyday moments.

Colleen’s work, 'Faces of Forgotten Australians', is held in the State Library of Queensland's permanent collection. She has exhibited in numerous group shows over the years, held her own solo exhibition, and published a photographic memoir. Colleen is member of the Brisbane Outsider Artists and mentorship program at Access Arts and a long-term member of Lotus Art Group.

I took a photo of this bromeliad because I just liked the different colours of the plant and the way it vibrantly appeared through the camera lens. I decided to paint this plant to represent the excitement and connection I feel in the outdoors. This artwork is a sort of love letter from me to the beauty of nature.
