Together
Rachel is an emerging artist from Brisbane/Meanjin who has been creating since she was a child.
As a new mum to an incredibly unsettled baby who rarely slept, Rachel struggled to adjust to early parenthood with two young children. During a time she assumed would be joyful, Rachel was plagued with overwhelm relating to fatigue, lack of control, and feelings of worry. Painting allowed Rachel to bring a centring balance to her life, where she could immerse herself in moments of focus, calm, and quiet.
Rachel has found her style in vibrant, textured flowers. Having journeyed through the challenges of early motherhood, Rachel's artwork reflects the delight she now feels in the company of her cherished children, and the pleasure of exploring nature hand-in-hand.

Sunflowers symbolise hidden disability, unity, and growth. I created this artwork to celebrate the collective strength and resilience created when mothers travel the road of early motherhood hand in hand. The vibrant scattering of diverse flowers represents the connection, normalisation, and joy that grows from living this messy yet magical journey, alongside others.
