Light in the Darkness
Francie Evans is an emerging contemporary figurative and still life artist based in Brisbane. Her works are typically grounded in realism and showcase a soft luminance and painterly brushstrokes reminiscent of the Impressionists, Pre-Raphaelites, and Romantics.
Francie began oil painting in 2021. Working as a medical scientist, and a mother to two young sons, she finds painting to be an opportunity to practice both mindfulness and escapism.
Over time, a series of works emerged known as the ‘Sad Girl’ series. Reflected in the faces of the women she was painting, Francie began to process and understand the anxiety and depression she was experiencing.
Through her art, Francie seeks to capture a feeling of freedom and inspire others to find their own paths towards self-discovery and growth.

In moments of loneliness and fear, I’ve found myself retreating into small spaces, overwhelmed by my own mind. This piece reflects that hidden corner (literal or figurative) - the place where darkness feels consuming, yet where a fragile thread of light can still be found. This piece invites viewers to see how light survives within shadow - and with it, hope.
