Yvie is a Brisbane/Meanjin-based artist living with complex PTSD. She began her career as a ceramicist, working primarily in teaching roles. While she enjoyed exploring other mediums, it wasn’t until a shoulder injury caused permanent impairment that she shifted her focus toward 2D artworks.
In 2024, an incident left Yvie unable to work and largely housebound, prompting her to concentrate more fully on her personal practice. For Yvie, art is both a way to process thoughts and emotions and a source of joy, offering rich sensory experiences through experimenting with different materials.

I created this artwork to explore both movement and the contrast between light and dark materials. I used mostly my hands as I worked on each layer of the vortex, shifting between light and dark. I love adding texture to my work, so there is a layer of painted tissue paper flowing through the piece. Although it's a moody work, a lot of fun went into its creation.
