By Justin Geange

Justin is an award-winning mental health and suicide prevention advocate. Treated for manic depression (as it was called then) for most of his earlier life and later diagnosed with bipolar type two, Justin has embraced many art forms over the years. He has found singing, performing, writing, poetry, and more recently art on canvas, to be essential tools in negotiating the challenges of more than four decades of mental illness.

Last year, Justin won awards for his mental health-based poetry and published his first book of poetry. With Justin's mother and daughter both talented visual artists, he draws upon on their inspiration to further tap into this new creative genre.

This collaborative work, created with my daughter Tegan Geange, explores the inner beauty of the human form and the vital connection between people, land, and waterways as foundations of mental health and wellbeing. The piece incorporates a QR code linking to my poem 'The Flow', as well as my book 'Holding Hope for my Mates', which features the poem in written form. Multi-faceted in nature, this work weaves together art, poetry, and storytelling as a reflection on healing, connection, and hope.
