Dancing Orchid, Cane & Sashiko
Vanessa is a Brisbane-based artist inspired by still life arrangements and the incidental beauty of the domestic space. Working primarily in acrylics, her paintings often feature decorative vessels, botanicals, and scenes from everyday life. A passionate collector of ceramics, fabrics, art books, and artworks, Vanessa enjoys arranging her belongings into moody tableaux, experimenting with colour, pattern, and unexpected juxtapositions.
Living with lifelong anxiety, Vanessa continues to develop her painting practice as a way of expressing her inspirations, experiences, memories, and surroundings; transforming them into works that reflect both beauty and personal truth.

We have a family orchid that began life at my old Kelvin Grove rental unit about 16 years ago. When the gardens were being renovated, I took a cutting and this beautiful plant has been moving around all of my family members' houses since, providing beauty and wonder. I love details and 'quiet work' so relished painting the multitudes of repeating shapes and lines.
