Brighter than Joy

After picking up a paintbrush in 2019 as a way of finding peace during a mental health crisis, Vicki discovered a world of colour and joy. Through art, she finds a tranquil place inside herself, using movement as meditation. The act of connecting to others through her work has been an unexpected, beautiful consequence of creating.

While continuing her nursing career and studying her masters, Vicki began to question if her gift to the world could be through art instead. In 2023, she began studying Visual Art at TAFE and exhibiting. Through her practice, Vicki embraces a path of continuous learning and experimentation, yet her true love remains abstract acrylics on large canvases, where she is free to shape the paint with large gestures and movement.

This style of painting brings me so much happiness; there's something indescribably joyful about how the colours reach towards you and pull you in to see the tiny details. Every one I've painted is an ode to happiness, yet this one sings a more joyful tune than any before. If there was something brighter than joy, this painting would be it.
