"This artwork is essentially an exploration of a woman's contemplative coping state; a self-portrait. Through bold lines, vibrant colours and sharp shapes, I aim to convey the intricate layers of emotional state and the complexity of her inner thoughts.
As the woman gazes into the abyss of her psyche, her expression evokes a sense of introspection coupled with the longing for a change of pace. I hope to inspire a sense of empathy and understanding of self-reflection and vulnerability."
Gina Ward is a self-taught acrylic artist. Born and raised in a small Queensland country town, she has since established herself in Brisbane.
When she isn’t in her studio, she can be found in an operating room in a trauma hospital. As a theatre nurse, Gina explores the vulnerability, resilience and complexity of the human experience and translates that to her canvas through her own lived experiences with anxiety.
Gina's art explores the interconnectedness and multi-dimensionality of our rapidly changing world by deconstructing familiar forms into fundamental geometric elements.
Blurring boundaries and challenging traditional notions of depth, her compositions question perception. Inspired by architecture, mid-century modern design and personal experiences, she draws on these elements to create emotive pieces.
