Danielle Hodgson was born in the country town of Tenterfield, New South Wales and feels very fortunate to live in Lower Beechmont in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Since a young child through to adolescence, Danielle has held a deep passion for art and the environment. It was, however, Danielle's passion for the environment which led into tertiary studies in ecology, where Danielle held a four-year career in the field before a psychotic breakdown in December 2017, age 27. Following on, Danielle was officially diagnosed with schizophrenia, MDD and severe anxiety (panic attack disorder).

From there, Danielle's life just felt like one, uncontrollable, giant rollercoaster ride - Danielle was just locked in for the emotional ups and downs, and twists and turns. Danielle lost friends, her career and passion for the environment, self-confidence, and critically, her sense of independence. Thanks to art, Danielle has now found solace.

Danielle is more grounded, and has been able to express inner emotions in ways that were not previously possible. This has also coincided with an increase in inner confidence, which in particular has been demonstrated through sharing art via social media.

"This watercolour artwork was inspired by great memories of beautiful sunsets seen growing up as a child travelling the coast with my dad. The colours used in this piece depict vivid contrast between the setting sun in the sky, the sea and the sand, yet also show the subtleties of similarities in shade among them.

There is also this kind of depth to the picture which is intended to draw the viewer into the scene in a calming content way."
