Richard McLaren is a retired photographer and teacher living with Chronic PTSD from service in Vietnam during 1969-70.
Richard has been researching the use of photography as a therapy for people with a mental health issue since 2001, and has taught basic photography to at-risk groups in the community.
Richard is currently writing an autoethnography of his experiences with therapeutic photography. He is also completing a photo book, The Color of Queensland, based on the 214 different nationalities that make up Queensland's population, and is just starting a photo project on human emotions.
"A classic example of looking closer than the 'big picture'. The leaf jutting out from the rocks was the only item in the sunlight, wanting to be noticed. It reminded me of some people I know."
