Troy Cowley is a 52 year old English artist, who has called Australia home since 1990.
For most of life, Troy has lived with a mental illness and has been making art. Troy finds art to be the most effective way of communicating his emotional state.
Troy's artwork has been displayed in over 20 exhibitions, and he has won many awards including the Heiser Emerging Artist Award.
Troy paints about the subject of mental health in an attempt to break down the stigma attached to it. Troy art is driven by strong colour and bold lines to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Troy also enjoys abstracting these elements and portraying the things he observes in nature.
"The inspiration behind this work is to portray how I feel when I am feeling unwell. The bold colour is for impact thus creating an emotional response in the viewer. The linear aspects are to show the confusion which I feel when I'm unwell."
