Born in Sydney in 1965, Robert "Bob" Maas moved with his parents at an early age to live in the mining town of Cobar, New South Wales. Bob started painting scenes from the outback, with red earth and mulga bushes, helping him develop an understanding of mixing colours. After moving to the Sunshine Coast, Bob graduated from the Queensland College of Arts with an Applied Arts Certificate (Honours).
Bob's art gives him strength and purpose to cope with his mental health issues. He paints from life and photographs, and draws inspiration from artists like Hans Heyson and Vincent Van Gogh.
Bob has sold his art in Brisbane, at local exhibitions and galleries, and has been given awards for his work. Nowadays, Bob puts his work online, specifically with Bluethumb, for artists, and Art From The Margins, with the help of his family and support workers.
"Rainforest was inspired by walking through Mary Cairncross Park near Maleny, Queensland. I took photos for inspiration to work from and then painted onto my canvas with my special technique of brushwork using mauve, blues, greens and yellows to make the forest come alive and look mysterious."
