Majeeda Cox is a naïve artist with a simple way of applying paint that creates quiet compositions. Her work explores being human, and the balance between vulnerability, isolation and connection. It commonly features women, animals, celestial and other natural elements.

The colour palette and sense of light in Majeeda's paintings are directly influenced by living in the Noosa Hinterland in Queensland.

An autistic artist, Majeeda is self-taught and has been painting since 1997, while also maintaining an active interest in photography. She recently added exhibiting solo at the Pomona Railway Station Gallery, as well as taking part in the Art From The Margins Biennial Outsider Art Awards, to a long list of exhibitions.

"I was inspired by the beautiful Judy Garland and have painted a Dorothy-esque vision of her. I left her classic ‘Wizard of Oz’ hairstyle behind, though, because I wanted to show Judy as more than that. She was more than that! Of that role, she once said that some people remained 'pretty angry with me, too, for not wearing braids, and not dressing like Dorothy, and not being eleven or twelve.' Trying to build on that early fame and success must have been difficult.

Can you imagine?"
