Troy Cowley is a 52 year old English artist who has called Australia home since 1990.
For most of his life, Troy lived with a mental illness and has been making art. Troy finds art to be the most effective way of communicating his emotional state.
Troy's artwork has been displayed in over 20 exhibitions and he has won many awards including the Heiser Emerging Artist Award.
Troy paints about the subject of mental health as an attempt to break down the stigma attached to it. Troy’s art is driven by strong colour and bold lines to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. Troy also enjoys abstracting these elements and portraying the things he observes in nature.
"This painting directly counteracts my self portrait by sharing how I perceive life when I'm well. I have used strong but mainly a serene colour scheme to depict this. I have abstracted my own self human figure at meditation in a garden filled with abstracted natural forms."
