Mikarla Teague is an artist and creative arts therapist who is passionate about working with individuals living with mental illness. She believes, as artists, it is our responsibility to challenge perspectives - art being the most powerful tool for storytelling, raising consciousness, creating awareness, building empathy, and in turn creating a world of equality and freedom.
"This artwork is inspired by living with chronic depression and anxiety and represents the walls we put up to protect ourselves from potential further trauma. But the truth is we lock it all inside if we don't seek healthy outlets. This artwork is an ode to acknowledging the ghosts and no longer allowing trauma and mental health to control and direct our lives."
