In 2015, Jaq testified at the Royal Commission into institutional sexual abuse, and began creating art to cope. She now spends every moment creating colourful canvases and rescued furniture. Using intense colour as a weapon against depression, the process relies on the therapeutic repetition of intricate lines and natural fractal forms. Repeating these shifting, organic patterns is deeply grounding. The work reflects the cycles of the last few years - how things arrive, bloom, decay, and morph.
