Samantha Marie is a Brisbane-based artist. A self-taught conceptual photographer, she has been internationally recognised for her works from confiding in safe spaces, to working with some of the most marginalised groups in Australia.
Samantha Marie aims to push the boundaries of portrait photography and consistently represents those who are misunderstood or underrepresented.
Bringing with her a background of restrictions and hardships, Samantha Marie's work explores the curiosity drive we all have with what we can't fully understand.
"The piece, 'Dimensions', explores self-hyperawareness while being present in everyday life. Often people feel their 'soul' leaving their body in social settings or when they're alone, and it can also come with feelings of 'deja vu.' This is what the ghost represents. It's been speculated in modern culture that we're living in a simulation, with multi-dimensions, and our other selves live out of sync with our physical self. The anxiety that comes with the absence of truth will drive one mad, but it's just as important to come to terms with it."
